For those who want to own a piece of paradise, Belize isn’t the only option, but it is one of the most attractive options for several reasons – close proximity to the United States, English-speaking people, and a predictable exchange rate pegged to the US Dollar.

One option to consider is Costa Rica. However, you’ll find that equivalent real estate is significantly more expensive in Costa Rica, they don’t have retirement incentives, and you will need to speak a little Spanish to get around. Plus, Belize is closer to North America.

Another option is Panama, which does have a similar retirement program, but it lacks the natural beauty and desirable location of Belize. Your home budget also won’t go as far in Panama – especially if you want to live in a beachfront community.
